Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver

If you’re finally ready to ditch that cheap, disposable razor that’s been sitting in the shower for months, you may be considering the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver. So, in this video, I’m putting it to the test! Tune in for a complete overview, shaving demo and honest review to help inform your purchase decision.

Panasonic is already a household name with a solid reputation. But does the brand deliver with this particular ladies electric shaver?

I have to admit, I was skeptical going in. I’ve used a disposable razor my entire life, and I think it works just fine. So, why would I pay the extra money and go through the hassle of a ladies electric shaver? Well, I was curious! And of course I need all the info for my GR ladies!

But I also have this problem at the beach in the summer. If I shave the morning of a beach day with my disposable razor, my legs burn like crazy in the salt water. But if I shave the day before to avoid the burn, I lose my ultra-smooth finish before my feet even hit the sand. I figured there has to be a better way!

I decided to check out the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver.

Let’s dive in and take a really close look at the product specs, performance and overall value. I promise you’ll feel good about whether or not to make this purchase once we’re through.

General Product Specs

The Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver is a wet/dry hair removal system with 3 floating ultra-sharp stainless-steel blades and an ultra-thin foil. This shaver is meant to follow the curves of your body for a close, comfortable shave. It also has a pop-up trimmer to capture stray hairs and detail the legs, underarms and bikini area.

You’ll want to move the shaver back and forth, holding it at a 90-degree angle so that the trimmers and foil work together. You can lift the pop-up trimmer to shave longer hairs.

Charging

The Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver is cordless and rechargeable. It comes with a compact space-saving charger making it portable and travel friendly. The battery charges in 12 hours and will run for up to 20 minutes. Panasonic recommends that you charge the shaver fully for 12 hours before using it for the first time and then weekly after that. A full charge should last about 7 shaves.

Note that the shaver may not begin charging right away once placed in the charger. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then re-check to ensure it begins charging.

Be sure to dry the shaver completely before charging it. And only use the charger in a dry location, keeping it out of extreme temperatures.

Cleaning

You can fully immerse this electric shaver for in-shower shaving and easy cleaning. Although, you’ll want to avoid submerging it for too long. Be sure to clean it only with tap water and liquid hand soap after each use. This will keep the unit free from odors and bacteria, and the blades and foil in good cutting condition. While handling this shaver, be gentle with the foil in particular, as it’s very thin and easily damaged.

Panasonic does not recommend any other cleaning agents, as they can weaken or damage the shaver. Also, never use boiling water.

While washing, turn the shaver on and off after a few seconds. Next, press the outer foil frame release buttons to remove the outer foil frame and rinse the inner blade/outer foil under running water. Dry the components before putting them back together.

You can store this electric shaver in its travel pouch until next use, or until it needs it’s next full charging.

Replacing the blades

Panasonic recommends that you replace the outer foil at least once a year, and the inner blade at least every two years. To replace the outer foil, simply press the outer foil frame release buttons to remove it. Then, squeeze the front and the back side of the outer foil frame and lift up one of the two knobs on the outer foil.

To insert the new outer foil, slip the foil into the frame and guide the plastic edges onto the hooks in the outer foil frame until it clicks into the shaver.

To replace the inner blade, squeeze the outer foil frame release buttons and lift it upward to remove it. Remove the inner blade by grasping it firmly at both ends and pulling straight away from the shaver. To insert the new inner blade, hold the blade at both ends and press downward until it snaps into the shaver.

All of this information can be found in the Operating Instructions for this product.

REVIEW

PROS: Let’s start with what I like about the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver.
Charging/Battery

I really like that this ladies electric shaver comes already charged. Of course, you should follow the manual and give it the full 12 hours of charging before first use. But we all know that sometimes you get a product home just in the nick of time and really need it to work right out of the box. You can do that with the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver.

The compact charging station is also attractive and easy to keep in the bathroom, right next to my vanity. I love that there are no cords!

Handling

The Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver is smooth, lightweight and easy to handle. It was comfortable to grip through the entirety of my test shave, which was about 15 minutes.

LEGS
I give this shaver an A for shaving performance on the legs.
Panasonic Close Curves

I was heading to the beach the same day I tested this shaver. So, I assumed I’d have to hop in the shower with my disposable razor to get rid of the stubble this one might leave behind. But that was not the case! My legs were totally smooth after shaving with the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver with absolutely no razor burn.

I was able to glide easily over my big toe, the top of my foot, around my ankle and behind my leg. With my disposable razor, I tend to avoid hard-to-reach spots because it’s inconvenient and I don’t want to cut myself. But with this shaver, I was able to hit all areas of my leg easily without fear of drawing blood. That was a nice and pleasant upgrade from my usual shaving routine!

I didn’t have any burning in the salt water that day at the beach!

I was so excited to walk into the water that day with smooth, fresh legs that weren’t on fire! This is a huge deal for me! It’s a never-ending battle each summer, as I described above. And it only took until I was 38 to try something different. Haha! We all get stuck in our ways, right?!

BIKINI AREA
I give this shaver a B+ for shaving performance on the bikini area.

This shaver was definitely a few steps up from the disposable razor when it comes to the bikini area. I really liked that I could capture longer hairs with the pop-up trimmer and then smooth out all the hard-to-reach places around my bikini line with the foil trimmer. The Panasonic definitely offered a more thorough shave vs. my disposable razor. I did not experience any razor burn in my bikini area.

Again, I was at the beach the same day I tested this shaver. It was nice knowing I was free from the dreaded bikini stubble and stray hairs sticking out of my bathing suit!

UNDER ARMS

This is where things took a turn.

Unfortunately, I have to give this shaver an F for shaving performance under the arms.
Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Shaver

This shaver did a solid job on my legs and bikini area. So, I was surprised by its poor performance under my arms! I don’t know if it was user error or maybe the skin under my arms is just sensitive and not used to an electric shaver. But let me tell you, I got the worst rash that left scabs and took days to heal! And while my legs weren’t burning at the beach that day, my armpits sure were! I was so uncomfortable, I had to head home early.

Here’s a picture of the rash:

PRO TIP: I was able to soothe my underarm rash with Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist. I love this mist for everyday moisturizing. Now, I love it even more for skin inflammation and irritation! Hydrating Nutrient Mist is a must-have in every home, I swear. My husband and kids even use it. Read more on my Mad Hippie Skincare post.

All things considered, here’s my final assessment.

I will continue using the Panasonic Close Curves Ladies Electric Shaver for my legs and bikini area. It did a solid job in those areas and was a clear step (or more) up from my disposable razor.

It’s also nice to have something handy for a quick dry shave when you’re in a pinch, but don’t feel like jumping back in the shower with your disposable razor.

And like I said, it’ll definitely be my go-to on beach days to avoid that dreaded salt-water burn!

Of course, it’s not going anywhere near my underarms again! I will have to continue using my disposable razor and consider other options for shaving in that area (e.g. waxing).

Should you purchase this ladies electric shaver?

Yes, if you’re looking for an alternative to a disposable razor and would like a smooth, stubble-free shave on your legs and bikini area. It’s particularly good for a dry shave, in my opinion.

No, if you want the same shaver to also take care of your underarms. The poor underarm performance could have been on me and my sensitive skin. But, unfortunately, I can’t recommend it for underarms after that rash I got!
